Module 6 - Art in the news

From what I found, the author Jay Kernis, was reliable and credible. He has been a journalist at CBS news and is a producer of Sunday morning at CBS. In the article he is interviewing and quoting Marco Leona who is the Metropolitan's chief scientist who is another very credible source. I would say Kernis writes this article in a sensational way. He is relaying information that some people would find very striking. Writing about something that goes against what people have known for hundreds of years is pretty sensational. He quotes a German scholar who says "It was time to reject a major misunderstanding by proving that European antiquity was not white, but colorful and diverse." I know this is reliable information because in the article they state how they found out the sculptures would have been colorful. They used a microscope to look at the little bits of paint that was left behind on the marble. The information is also from one of the most famous museums in the world that has countless amounts of credibility behind it. I think the author did a good job of writing the article in a way that showed the reliability of his sources. The author has plenty of reliability behind him while also talking to people who work at the Metropolitan museum. I thought this was a well written, reliable article.
I like how this shows the difference in the art work from colorless to using all the colors in that statue. Do you know that meaning behind the colors? It shows the changes in time and how things are looked upon differently.
ReplyDeleteKylie,
ReplyDeleteI love how you chose an image with such a strong focal point! One would think that to have a main focus that the background would need to be hazed out. however this shot was focused with color. The vibrant colors at the forefront make this a strong image. Do you think that the use of vibrant colors like this could be used in photography of landscapes as well?
Kylie,
ReplyDeleteI like the image you chose of the sculptures it gives a different look to the art that we my see everyday and shows the truth. It captured the true essence of the image.
