Module 6 - Art in the news

"Ancient Sculptures Reveal Their True Colors" https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ancient-greek-roman-sculptures-metropolitan-museum-art/ From what I found, the author Jay Kernis, was reliable and credible. He has been a journalist at CBS news and is a producer of Sunday morning at CBS. In the article he is interviewing and quoting Marco Leona who is the Metropolitan's chief scientist who is another very credible source. I would say Kernis writes this article in a sensational way. He is relaying information that some people would find very striking. Writing about something that goes against what people have known for hundreds of years is pretty sensational. He quotes a German scholar who says "It was time to reject a major misunderstanding by proving that European antiquity was not white, but colorful and diverse." I know this is reliable information because in the article they state how they found out the sculptures would have been colorful. They used a microscope to

"love is in the bin" by Banksy  Description       This image is a framed print of Banksy's painting "Girl with Balloon". The image shown is halfway shredded. The original painting is a black and white silhouette of a little girl who is holding a heart shaped red balloon. In the picture the balloon is floating away as the little girl watches it floating away. The shredding goes halfway down the painting and the little girls face is covered by the frame of the painting. It now shoes the body of the little girl and the red heart shaped balloon. The frame is distressed and brown with a large pattern around the edges.  Analysis       The original print was just the little girl and the balloon but when the original piece was sold at an auction the piece shredded. As soon as it was sold it was shredded in half. When you look at the piece your eyes are drawn to the bright red heart shaped balloon because of the way it stands out against the brown frame and the black sil

"Morons" By Banksy.  Description       This piece of artwork is a black and white piece set in an auction room. The lines are soft and blended. There is focus points in the back as well as the focus point in the front right of the image. We can see an audience of people in the front all focused on an auctioneer in the middle who is pointing to a few paintings behind him. On the auctioneer stand there is also a bright green money counter.  Analysis This piece was originally in print but was later burned and turned into a strictly digital piece. When looking at the artwork your eyes are immediately drawn to the middle of the page. While there you catch a bright green money counter in the middle of the auction stand that stands out. After looking deeper your line of sight moves right towards the bright white painting that says "I can't believe you morons believe this shit." Most of the audience is looking in the opposite direction of the bright white painting that

Chief Blanket James Koehler   https://www.denverartmuseum.org/en/collection/textile-art-and-fashion Description      The Chief Blanket by the artist James Koehler is a tapestry that was made to pay tribute to the Navajo chief blanket as well as the pattern of Amish quilts from Pennsylvania. The tapestry is a combination of squares and rectangles in varying colors. There is a repeating pattern of big design elements paired with smaller and thinner lines. The colors used are a bright orange, dull green as well as vibrant purple. There is also a deep black and a light creme white.  Analysis      This tapestry was textile art. It is a physical piece of art that catches the eye. The author mentions how he used two different inspirations for the piece, ultimately becoming its own mixture of the two. The colors contrast each other creating an eye catching piece. The bright orange and purple and symmetry draw your eyes to the edges of the piece, while the vibrant purple squares against the d
